My Garden

All started March 2020, when Covid brought the world to a stop. In search for a distraction which kept the state of the crazy world away, I found gardening. It was an unexpected love story which escalated quickly.

I can confidently say, I will never not garden for the rest of my life.

May 2020 - The garden started with a simple 8x4 ft Cedar raised bed (approx. 12 in tall) and some VERY small tomato seedlings, I grew on my kitchen table in front of the window without a proper grow light. Spoiler: Even these very sad little San Marzano tomato seedlings, ended up growing into sizeable tomato plants and produced 19 lbs of tomatoes across 3 plants. Which means, anyone can grow tomatoes.

Save to say, I was hooked on gardening like nothing before and researching every bit of information I could find.

July 2020 - We had already learned few things from the first garden bed, that we were building a second one along the fence line to plant out a fall garden. This bed is also 8x4 ft big, but 24 in tall for a more back friendly heights. All of our beds are filled with a mix of 45 % Compost, 45% Loam and 10% perlite for good aeration and drainage.

April 2021 - The next 8x4 ft bed was added alongside the fence line and my first true flower beds next to the OG raised bed. This was also the first time I planted 5 dahlia corms, one of it being a Café-au-Lait dahlia aka known as the one which started the dahlia addiction. It also become more and more clear how much I enjoyed growing flowers next to my vegetables.

Mid summer of 2022, I started to plan a more organized garden space to incorporate a dedicated cutflower garden, additional vegetable raised beds from Vego and a patio space to sit and enjoy the view. This was also the last expansion for this location as we are only renting our current house and want to be mindful of the layout, so that we can revert everything in case of a move out for our own house in a couple years.
